Why does the European Union flag bear twelve stars? Why does the rhythm of 5-7-5 syllables in Japanese poetry resonate so deeply? Why can we say "ここのつ" (nine) but not "とおつ" (ten)? Numbers, deeply embedded in our everyday lives, carry profound cultural significance within different linguistic spheres. This course invites you on a journey to uncover the fascinating world of numbers, exploring the values and worldviews embedded in Japanese and foreign cultures.
